On behalf of the entire orchestra it is a sincere pleasure to welcome you to the 126th Slaithwaite Philharmonic Season. Personally I think we set the bar pretty high last year with our 125th anniversary, but this season we will pick up where we very firmly left off in June 2017 with the thrilling performance of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony. Our forthcoming season has a selection of some of the best loved classics, incredible masterpieces, collaborations with dance and visual arts, musicals, sacred oratorios and a quick tour to China to stop us getting complacent; alongside other special projects to be announced in due course. We also make a warm ‘debut welcome’ to Finnish pianist Julia Wallin who will be appearing in our special event to launch the season as well as in our opening concert. I also make a special mention to choreographer Tracey Iliffe, who makes her debut with us in January 2018 with the ballet suite from Checkmate by Sir Arthur Bliss – an event not to be missed. An orchestra is for everyone, and I believe this season, more than ever, we have a packed musical diet full of variety and sustenance – do join us.
